Michael Tomlin has the unique gift of presenting profound truths wrapped in a colorful cloak of down to earth hilarity and universally relatable sorrow. You will come away from this highly entertaining read thoroughly satisfied, having laughed until your sides hurt and cried hot wet tears in universal recognition of the fragile beauty of our all too brief time upon this lovely planet.
Max is a reluctant hero who jumps off the pages as someone you will fall just a little in love with and want as your best friend. And the Devil… well, he is quite an unexpected character indeed, popping up at the most uninvited and uncomfortable times, spouting philosophy and making demands that inadvertently lead Max down a path of fulfillment he never thought possible. Once you open this book and start to read, it’s going to be difficult to put it down until you have reached the very end. Expect to be delightfully surprised by what you find between the covers. Michael Tomlin has gifted us with a beautiful jewel of a book. -

I had the pleasure of meeting Michael whilst on holiday. Having met him, it is easy to spot his sense of humour in this book and it had me hooked and made me laugh out loud right from the early reference to 'Porky Pig'. It's also thought provoking...makes you think about what is really important to you. A lovely read! – Norma S.
This book was excellent. Michael is so detailed and in-depth with how he weaves this story. There was an image created where you can see and feel the characters as the story plays out. How he writes about the human element, the personal struggles, and the descriptions of what Max's character feels upon reaching his final resting place in Hawaii and eventually meeting the daughter he never knew he had were all compelling. Some might even find the book touching their emotions as I did. Oh, and it's clever and witty throughout. I highly recommend this book and I would only describe myself as a casual reader of novels. – Doug W.
I am so glad I stumbled across this book on my social media page. It was one of the best books I have read in a long time. I would love to see it come out on audio! – Sheila R.
This tightly-written, clever book does not disappoint, is filled with ethos, pathos, tears, laughter. You’ll find yourself anxious to get back to it to see what’s happening, caring about the characters. The story unfolds at life’s end amid questions, reflections, regrets, humor, presenting advice and a naturally flowing, mini compendium of philosophy resources. About halfway through the book a very short chapter unobtrusively offers the answer to one of life’s great questions. Kudos! And, by the way, answers to questions we dared not pose are included. It is all here, woven in storyline and framework. Give it a go, and gift it to someone just starting out in the big, wide world. It can help clear the way for young and old. – Irt
